Pink Ladybug Baby Quilt

My student, Stephanie, has been an only child for 19 years.  Last week, her baby sister was born.  She is, I think, the most excited big sister in all of history.  We've been making lots of baby crafts together this year, and she begged me again and again to make a baby quilt for her little sis.  I asked her for inspiration, and she gave me "pink ladybugs and their fly trail."  Here's the result:

My first time doing applique correctly - with iron on interfacing!  It was fun!

I incorporated this project into my quest of trying out all of the quilts (or quilt blocks) from Elizabeth Hartman's A Practical Guide to Patchwork.  This was a baby version of her Sunspot pattern.

I went with a loopy free motion quilting pattern this time - perfect for that "fly trail" that Stephanie requested.

The special label!

Here's Stephanie, excited to deliver the quilt to little Angelina!

In case it's not clear - I love you, Stephanie! Angelina is the luckiest sister ever.

If you have an idea for a mini quilt, there's still time to enter in my Mini Quilt Giveaway!  Contest closes at 5pm tomorrow!

  1. love the quilt but I am wondering if there is a pattern to this so I can make it for a friend of mine.
