Wardrobe Revamp: Week 4

First off, to announce the winner of last week's wardrobe revamp lavender t-shirt necklace giveaway...

Congrats, Katie! Please send me your address so you can receive your fabulous new accessory!

Now onto week four of my quest to revamp my wardrobe one outfit at a time, one week at a time! This week, I wanted to take on something a little bit more substantial than just accessories.

Meet: my white hippie skirt, circa my sophomore year of college. While classic in its flowy, summer-ness, this skirt doesn't do me any favors. The length is all wrong - cutting across the widest part of my calves, which (thanks to Tim Gunn's Guide to Style!) I learned is a big no-no. It's been in my closet for years, and I can count the number of times I've worn it on one hand. I haven't been able to let it go, either. There was potential here...

I've been eyeing a petticoat tutorial over at Alisa Burke's blog, and my long white skirt was a perfect base to work from - the skirt is already constructed and fits me well, and I had extra fabric from the long length to use for the ruffles. I also used some white muslin scraps that I had left over from another project.

No use revamping a white skirt after Labor Day, so I tried my hand at tea dying the fabric for a more vintage feel. Since I had two different fabrics - the fabric from the original skirt and my muslin scraps - they took the dye in different shades, so my petticoat ended up being two-toned, just like Alisa's. Don't you just love those happy accidents?

...and voila! a petticoat!

Ian had fun taking these photos - "Jump, Carole Ann!"

I must say, the ruffles are fun. Nothing compares to wearing a garment that I made myself!

What do you think? I'm wondering - is this workplace appropriate/what is the right occasion to wear a petticoat?

  1. Love it! You could where that to work. I would!

  2. Omg. SO. CUTE. I want one. Petticoats are very fancy, thus appropriate for work. Tim Gunn would think so too.

  3. This is my favorite Carole Ann creation!!!! I LOVE this!!!! What an awesome transformation!! Way to go!! (more exclamation points!!!)

  4. I remember that skirt! It looks great with the revamp. The jumpin' picture? Reminds me of something you would have done on your third birthday!

  5. I remember this skirt. I LOVE the transformation! Your crafts inspire me, Ddlebur!

  6. Thanks for the encouragement, ladies! I DID wear it to work this week, and I felt OH SO FANCY!
