This Is Awesome: New Amy Sedaris Book

I just learned that Amy Sedaris, hilarious star of the tv show Strangers with Candy, sister of David Sedaris, and author of I Like You: Hospitality Under the Influence is coming out with a new book next week - Simple Times: Crafts for Poor People.

If it's anything like her first book, this is sure to be two parts comedy routine, one part craft instructions. I even hear that there are directions for creating your very own wizard-duck costume!

Here's a video of her appearance on The Late Show with David Letterman:

(Side note: I LOVE the dress she's wearing...especially the snap feature that she explains!)

As Amy says in her amazon book trailer, "So if you have an interest in making things, or like to look at pictures of other people making things, or simply are amused by the idea of people making things..." this is a great book for you! (And also a great holiday gift!)

Check out this interview with Amy over at Craft Ideas Weekly.

And take a peek at her book signing tour schedule to see if she'll be stopping by a book store near you!

  1. I saw this book at Barnsey the other day and stopped to oggle it. I hadn't heard of her before though. Now I know I totally need to go get both of her books! Thanks for sharing Carole Ann!

  4. Such a good recommendation! I have her first book and it is fabulous. Favorite tip: loose marbles in the bathroom medicine cabinet during a dinner party lets everybody know who the snoops are!

As an added bonus, the first book's dust jacket doubles as a pin-up poster featuring Amy and a variety of candy sprinkles.

When I saw this second book in the store, I had to take a peek to see if the poster tradition continues. I don't want to ruin the ending, but I'd say Amy has established herself on the best fringes of comedy.

  5. Thanks for sharing your review, Ben - somehow I knew you'd be right on this! Who would've thought she could outdo that deliciously appetizing baked Alaska with a whole chapter on "Crafting for Jesus."
