This is Awesome: My First Zine & GIVEAWAY

I turned 25 on Monday!

It felt like a big milestone - this has been a big, wonderful year. So I wanted to celebrate with a party and all of my dear friends in one room. Here's a shot of my divine chocolate cake (which, fortunately/unfortunately, appears to be my breakfast, lunch, and dinner for the next six days since everyone is so sugared out from Christmas)!

For the party, my creative friend Alice helped me to make my first zine (a small, self-published work). It's called 25 Things I've Learned About Myself in 25 Years, and I made it as a gift to myself, to my friends, and to you, dear reader. That's right, I want to send one to you!

So, to get your copy, here's all you need to do:

Leave a comment below with something you learned about yourself by the time you were 25, or something you *hope* to learn about yourself by that time. And don't forget to leave a way for me to get in touch with you (email or address, etc.).

Here's one from my zine:
#16: I like going to the library to pick out books more than actually reading them.

Can't wait to read yours! Thanks so much, dear reader, for a great 25th year! Here's to year 26!

  1. Year 21 burning the candle at both ends takes a lot of energy, but the increased experiences make it worthwhile.

  3. I'll never be famous, age 25. My goal, from age 19ish, was to be famous by age 25 or I was going to force myself to enrolling in nursing school, which is basically the worst career I could imagine for myself. (I appreciate nurses, just don't wanna be one.) When 25 rolled around and I still wasn't famous, I decided I'd never be famous and would just do things I loved for the heck of it.

  4. I learned at age 18 that even the seemingly impossible can and will be made possible with enough faith, persistence, hard work, support from friends/family, and organization - at that time in my life, the idea of attending and paying for college seemed like a complete impossibility, but with that combination of tools I was able to get my diploma and pay off my debt. Just in this past year at age 25, I feel like I've been learning that very same lesson all over again in a new way by turning my creative practice (essentially what I went to college for) into a source of sustainable income. Now I just need to keep the momentum by working hard, staying as organized as possible, keeping the faith, and staying involved in groups like the Hive, yeah!!

  5. Hey, dear, I know I'm late to the party, but here's my contribution:

By 25 I had learned that I was capable of picking up and moving to a foreign country, to a city where I knew no one. I knew I would be able to make new friends and have lots of new, if sometimes frustrating, adventures. And, at 25, I knew I was ready to do it again, but this time with a partner.

By the way, you don't have to send me the zine. If you still have any, I'd love to get one in May during commencement. Thanks!

  6. i learned that to really enjoy putting effort into performing in a band (or more broadly, 'collaborative arts-making'), i like to feel essential to the sound being made. this sounds kind of selfish when i say it aloud, but it rings true whenever i go back to it. would love to see your zine!
